WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW AT FISHER
FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Fisher Families,
I hope you all enjoyed a restful and enjoyable Spring Break!
Students will begin the very important CAASPP state testing. Our 8th-grade Science students will be taking their assessments on April 17-19 during class. Please note the following important dates and avoid scheduling any appointments during this important time:
English Language Arts, April 22-26
Math, April 29-May 3
It is very important that students attend school daily during these two crucial weeks and arrive at school on time. Absences and tardies are very disruptive for students and staff. We would greatly appreciate your support!
In terms of our parking lot and drop off/pick up, we MUST do better! I am receiving daily calls and emails from concerned community members for the safety of all individuals. I know we can do better! The Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department is being consistently notified about families from our community who are not following the rules. We take this very seriously as this is a reflection of our entire community. How can you help? Just like we tell students at school, if you see something, say something! Please review:
- Restricted Sign - Do NOT enter the driveway behind Clubhouse as stated in the sign. When parents use this as a drop-off area for students, pedestrians are put at risk.
- Red Curbs - Do NOT use them for standing, stopping, or parking. This is a HUGE safety issue.
- No Parking Sign - Do NOT park to let your child get out of your car. No exceptions.
- Handicapped/Blue parking spots - Unless your car displays an appropriate California placard, NEVER park in these spots, not even for a “quick drop off”. Also, NEVER block access to these essential parking spots.
- Be Neighborly - When we follow posted signs, we are teaching our children to follow simple rules (CA LAW) and demonstrate our care for the community. This includes following the signs that state NO DOGS allowed on campus.
Thank you all for your attention to these important matters. We appreciate your continued support!
Take care.
Mary Lonhart
Principal
ATTENDANCE MATTERS!
In an effort to improve our chronic absenteeism rate (chronic absenteeism is defined as missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason), LGUSD has enabled auto-generated notifications that go home after 3, 6, 10, and 15 days of absences. You should expect to see these notifications if your student is absent for any reason after 3, 6, 10, and 15 days of total absences.
These letters are an important part of awareness around chronic absenteeism and ensure families know that we are available to support your student when needed.
After 10 absences, we may facilitate a collaborative meeting between home and school to better support your student attending school.
If you know your student will be out of school for an extended absence (5+ consecutive days), the earlier we are aware of the absence, the better we can support your student. Please let us know as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly.
HOMEWORK CENTER
Students have the opportunity to complete homework in a supervised setting with teacher support. Sign-in and sign-out are required. Students are not required to stay for the entire session.

DO YOU KNOW?
Do you know how many opportunities your child has at Fisher Middle School? One Community LG focuses on providing students with many options so that students can make their own choices concerning their education. One Community LG funds many of these electives thanks to contributions from parents like you.
Students can choose elective classes such as dance, STEAM, band, choir, or orchestra. During lunch, students can choose to participate in intramural sports, organized by our Noon Sports Coordinator, or relax in the Wellness Center with our many counselors. Student clubs at Fisher are also funded through One Community LG, as well as many after school community building activities, such as the recent Camp Trojan.
All 6th grade students participate in OCLG funded electives since they are either in the Music Program or the Wheel, which includes dance and STEAM. Many 7th grade students continue with the Wheel, which includes STEAM, or are in the Music Program, and some 8th grade students participate in both Spanish and music as their electives. Regardless of which elective your student participates in, it is important that all students be given the opportunity to make a choice at any point in their Fisher career.
Ask your child to tell you what they did in their elective or at lunch this week. To find out more about what your contributions to One Community LG will fund, please visit www.onecommunitylg.org.
